EPS is the most cost-effective and works well on most homes. Mineral wool is fire-resistant and breathable, which suits taller buildings and certain wall types. Phenolic gives the highest performance per millimetre, useful where boundary or design space is tight.
Boards are bonded with a cement-based adhesive applied either as dabs and ribbon or as a full bed, and then mechanically fixed with appropriate anchors – usually 6–8 per board, depending on the system and exposure.
Modern EWI fixings are designed with low thermal conductivity. Used at the right density and pattern, their impact on overall U-value is minimal.
